Taking Photographic Papers Seriously

The choice of paper on which a photograph is printed must be sympathetic with the subject matter of the work. The right choice can immensely enhance the impression it imparts to the viewer. Just as you wouldn't choose to drink a fine wine from an earthenware mug, nor surely would you print a good photograph - worthy of framing - on a low grade photo paper without depth or colour accuracy, or a sympathetic texture. Moreover, you'd prefer the work not to fade or deteriorate with light as most inexpensive everyday papers do. This is why I take such a great deal of trouble to ensure my work is printed on the most appropriate and finest of fine art giclée papers. Of archival, museum and exhibition grade so it will not change over time. Such a high level of quality costs a little bit more but the artwork with which you choose to surround yourself is surely worth it, is it not? I think so. I hope you agree.

Situated in the ancient Cathedral City of Wells in Somerset in the southwest of England, St Cuthbert's Mill has been making paper since the 1700's, taking advantage of the pure waters of the River Axe. Their papers greatly appeal to photographers for their purity and distinction.

Their Photographic Printmaking papers - the Somerset Photo range - are rated extremely highly and I have selected two of them as being perfect for digital inkjet giclée printing of some of my more vibrant colour photographs and my darker and most dramatic black & white works.
